Yoga & Meditation

Yoga : An Eternal Tradition
                  By Acharya Girish Jha

Yoga being an inner journey had always been associated with solitude, isolated places like Himalayas in India. Modern man after reading literatures on yoga, still consider and think that true Yogis are one who spend their entire lifetime in Yoga Sadhana( practices of yoga) in the caves of the Himalayas to achieve perfection. Nevertheless, Himalayas always fascinated Indians who aspire for self perfection through penance, and yoga practices. But there are many masters who never went to Himalayas but achieved perfection. There are no references of Astavakra, Lord Janaka, Kabir, Telanga Swami, Sri Aurobindo etc who never went to Himalayas but known as great yoga masters. Self perfection by yoga can be achieved anywhere and is independent of any place, things, movements, works, professions, race, creed and religion. Yoga discovers for original and primordial reality that can be understood by understanding Jesus before Christianity, Mohammad before Islam, Buddha before Buddhism, Lord Mahavira before Jainism etc. this statement helps one to understand how yoga is related/ not related to religion. The self perfection does not rely on any person, books, even practices when yoga practitioner transcends mind but solely on one own experiences based upon eternal attributes i.e. Truth, Pure awareness, Knowledge, Bliss and Love. The experience based upon higher consciousness and beyond mind which unites one with the ultimate one and only one consciousness, brought forward a discipline which later was known as science of Yoga.

What is seen is subjected to change? What is subjected to change can not continue for ever nor can be eternal or infinite. The sense organs can not perceive infinite, all pervading reality as they can neither perceive very near nor very far off objects. The infinite and the eternal are beyond the comprehension of mind. Mind can not look for eternal, but yoga takes one beyond mind into eternity. Yoga is eternal as it discovers eternity beyond mind within man. The tradition is eternal as that eternal tradition always inspires man to discover Love, Energy, Awareness and Peace (LEAP) within. Yoga is eternal tradition as it not only discovers LEAP within but helps everyone to manifest in body, life and mind. It further manifests in personal, professional, social lives. This manifestation brings joy, harmony, health and cooperation in life. Yoga says that the eternal consciousness vibrates within every one and everyone has birthright to discover experience and realize in life. That is why yoga is eternal tradition.
